Ampersand

The AMPERSAND series was part of a group of acrylic paintings designed to symbolize, through illegible texts, the chaos in our world. The illegibility of ampersands, (which signify "and"), at least among the general world population, is clear. I was delighted to find a stencil of an ampersand because of an ampersand's elegant form, and the large size of the stencil gave me an opportunity to use what my favorite art teacher, K. Coffin, described in a review of my first art exhibition, back in the 1970s, as my "velvety transition from one color to the next." My deteriorated eyesight required me to use a limited palette. I still delighted in using bright colors.
